Take That rule the U.K. charts for the second week running, spending a third week at No. 1 on the singles survey with “Patience” and a second with its parent Polydor album “Beautiful World.” Additionally, the group’s “Never Forget — The Ultimate Collection” (RCA), which is already certified triple platinum for 900,000 U.K. shipments, jumped 69-36 on the album tally.
Singles-wise, Booty Luv’s “Boogie 2nite” (Hed Kandi) improved 3-2 on the new chart as LazyTown’s “Bing Bang (Time To Dance)” (GTV), a spinoff from the successful children’s TV series originating in Iceland, entered at No. 4. Gwen Stefani’s “Wind It Up” (Interscope) came in at No. 8, although her second solo album, “The Sweet Escape,” was a more modest debutant at No. 26.
London R&B singer Jamelia’s “Beware of the Dog” (Parlophone), which samples extensively from Depeche Mode’s “Personal Jesus,” made a 34-10 climb, and Chris Cornell’s “You Know My Name” (Interscope), the theme from the James Bond movie “Casino Royale,” entered at No. 12 on download sales.
Also fresh to the top 20 were Morrissey’s “I Just Want To See the Boy Happy” (Attack/Sanctuary) at No. 16, dance act Cascada’s remake of Savage Garden’s “Truly Madly Deeply” (All Around The World) at No. 17, Scissor Sisters’ “Land of a Thousand Words” (Polydor), which jumped 68-19, and “Tell Me” (Bad Boy) by P. Diddy featuring Christina Aguilera at No. 20.
The two festive perennials that entered the top 75 last week both climbed into the top 30. “Fairytale of New York” (Warner Bros.) by the Pogues featuring Kirsty MacColl jumped 46-23 and Slade’s “Merry Xmas Everybody” (Polydor) rose 54-22, both recordings becoming top 40 hits for the fourth time.
A quietish album chart saw Oasis’ “Stop The Clocks” compilation (Big Brother) climb 3-2 and Westlife’s former No. 1 “The Love Album” (S/Sony BMG) 4-3, with Il Divo’s “Siempre” (Syco Music/Sony BMG) down 2-4.
On Billboard’s pan-European compilation charts, The Beatles’ “Love” (Apple/Parlophone) retains leadership of European Top 100 Albums, while the Take That single spends a second week atop Eurochart Hot 100 Singles.
