SZA brought Wheatus’ 2000 classic “Teenage Dirtbag” into 2019 with an amazing cover.
The songstress unveiled her rendition of the tune while performing at Australia’s Splendour in the Grass festival over the weekend. The crowd erupts into cheers upon hearing the familiar lyrics, and scream-sing the iconic chorus with SZA.
“The boyfriend character was based on a nameless conglomeration of the many douchebag bullies who wanted to show you their father’s gun,” Wheatus singer Brendan B. Brown told The Guardian in May of the fan favorite.. “And I sang both the male and female parts because, when I was getting beat up, a lot of bullies were homophobic. I wanted to irritate them by putting on a female voice.”
