Chart-topping hard rock act System Of A Down will headline this year’s Ozzfest tour, taking the stage each night just before tour founder and namesake Ozzy Osbourne’s closing set. It’s the group’s third appearance on the annual summer package trek, dates for which have yet to be finalized. System is due to kick off a short North American tour Feb. 14 in Las Vegas, to be followed by a 20-date European tour starting March 5 in Coimbra, Portugal.
Last year’s Ozzfest featured mainstage performances from Black Sabbath, Marilyn Manson, Slipknot, Papa Roach, Linkin Park, and Crazy Town, with second stage acts including Disturbed, Mudvayne, Cold, and Taproot.
System Of A Down is touring behind its latest American album, “Toxicity,” which is No. 33 in its 20th week on The Billboard 200. The single “Chop Suey” is No. 13 on Billboard’s Modern Rock Tracks chart and is nominated for best metal performance at the 44th annual Grammy Awards, to be handed out Feb. 27 in Los Angeles. The album’s title cut is No. 27 on the Modern Rock Tracks tally this week.
As for Osbourne, the artist will kick off a short Japanese tour Feb. 8 in Osaka and, as previously reported, will record a live album Feb. 15 at Tokyo’s famed Budokan Hall. He and his family will also star in MTV’s new reality show “The Osbournes,” which premieres March 5 on the network.
