When Sydney Youth Orchestra covered Darude’s trance phenomenon “Sandstorm,” it was the hit of IGNITE, a performance event dedicated to presenting symphonic renditions of popular dance tracks. In the video, the orchestra adds a completely new layer to the ’90s cult classic, and the crowd goes wild when the unexpected melody comes in.
After the release of “Sandstorm” in 1999, the track became an established sports anthem and was recently revived as a viral hit thanks to a string of video memes. An online petition was even created to change the United States national anthem to the Darude song.
