Hard to believe, but South By Southwest is only a month away. SXSW just revealed the lion’s share of its 2016 film festival lineup, including (as you might expect) a number of high-profile, music-related movie premieres.
Among SXSW’s 2016 crop are The Trust, a crime drama starring Nic Cage and Elijah Wood that also features alt-pop singer Sky Ferreira, the Ethan Hawke-starring Chet Baker biopic Born to Be Blue, and a documentary about synth-pop pioneer Gary Numan, titled Gary Numan: An Android in La La Land.
A number of enticing music docs with the word “Story” in their title will also make their world premiere at SXSW 2016. Goodnight Brooklyn – The Story of Death by Audio chronicles the beloved Brooklyn DIY venue that was shuttered in 2014, The Smart Studios Story documents the Madison, WI, studio where a staggering number of ’90s rock classics — including Nirvana’s Nevermind — were recorded, and A Song for You: The Austin City Limits Story covers the history of the venerable live music TV series.
Check out the announced lineup so far at SXSW’s site. The film fest portion runs March 11-20.
