Missed SWV? Well, the ladies must have “missed us”: they’re making a comeback in 2012 with their first single in over a decade, “Co-Sign.” Despite disbanding in the late ’90s, it’s clear the ladies still haven’t missed a step with the new single, the first taste of their upcoming reunion album, “I Missed Us.”
SWV (which stands for Sisters With Voices) come back to the scene with a classic-sounding R&B record complete with DJ scratches and thumping background bass. Their verse and chorus harmonies are still on point as they tell their man they “co-sign” any love he shows them. Make sure to listen until the bridge’s climax, where the girls sweetly remind us they are still living up to their name with a lot of belting and vocal runs.
Cheryl “Coko” Clemons, Tamara “Taj” Johnson-George, and Leanne “Lelee” Lyons hit the scene in the early ’90s with R&B classics such as ” Weak,” which topped both the Billboard Hot 100 and the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs charts in 1993, and the No. 1 R&B hit (plus No. 2 on the Hot 100) ” Right Here.” The group disbanded to pursue solo projects in the late ’90s. Welcome back, ladies!
