Country star Taylor Swift takes her Red Tour to No. 1 on the weekly Hot Tours chart for the first time since the show launched in mid-March based on box office grosses reported during the past week. Totaling $6.6 million, the ticket revenue tally comes from three venues on the tour’s six-month trek through North American cities. The first arena is Prudential Center in Newark, N.J., with a three-night combined gross of $3.5 million from more than 38,000 sold tickets. The metropolitan New Jersey/New York area venue hosted Swift on March 27, 28 and 29 with sellout crowds at all three performances. Two weeks later, she played a single show in Miami at American Airlines Arena on April 10 followed by a two-show run beginning the next day at Orlando’s Amway Center.
Def Leppard is second this week, with ticket sales totals reported from its recent multiple-show run at The Joint, located in the Hard Rock Hotel in Las Vegas. The English rock band performed 11 shows, including 7 sellouts, at the 4,000-seat concert venue from March 22 through April 13 grossing over $3.2 million. Appropriately dubbed VIVA Hysteria!, the show featured the group playing the entire 1987 album Hysteria.
Scoring a No. 3 Hot Tours ranking is Carrie Underwood with more than $2.9 million in grosses from the continuing world tour that began last summer in support of her Blown Away album, released last May. This week’s reported box office totals come from three Canadian and four U.S. arenas, all with sellout crowds in the house. Since the Blown Away Tour began last year, more than $40.6 million in ticket sales revenue has been reported to Billboard. The overall attendance count is 682,661 from 84 performances.
Three of the Hot Tours included in this week’s rankings come from performances at the Colosseum at Caesars Windsor casino in the city of Windsor, Ontario. Matchbox Twenty, Paul Anka and Nelly Furtado land at Nos. 8, 9 and 10, respectively based on grosses from the casino’s 5,000-seat concert facility. Concert promoter C3 Presents reported 8 concerts that have occurred at the Canadian venue since the beginning of the year with grosses totaling $2.7 million from more than 34,000 sold tickets. Also appearing at the casino in 2013 were Diana Krall, Tony Bennett, The Temptations Review featuring Dennis Edwards, Bill Engvall and Neil Sedaka.
