Selling a million tickets ain’t easy. “You get sick of people after a while,” says the voice of one Swedish House Mafia member in a trailer for a forthcoming documentary about the group’s One Last Tour tour. The trio of Steve Angello, Axwell and Sebastian Ingrosso officially broke up in March, playing their final set at Ultra Music Festival in Miami following a record-setting spree across the country (including a sold-out Madison Square Garden set in New York City and five nights at Bill Graham Civic in San Francisco). Still, despite solo efforts from each of its members, the audience for the hitmakers as a group has yet to die down.
The two-minute clip, which premiered today on YouTube, showcases the highs (pyrotechnics, backstage antics, screaming fans, bro-hugging Skrillex) and the lows (Angello missing in action, Ingrosso missing his family, tempers) with a combination of concert footage and behind the scenes action. Is it necessary that we see the now-defunct DJ supergroup hugging their children and playing shirtless tennis? Probably not, but the group that has so successfully maximized every opportunity to appease its fans during its career is merely continuing the trend in its afterlife.
Ultimately, we glean little from this clip we didn’t already know, except perhaps that some deeper insight into why they really split could be forthcoming. While all three members spoke candidly about their departure to Billboard last winter at the beginning of their tour, it’s clear from this preview that things backstage weren’t always so worry-free with chamomile tea.
One thing is certain: the Mafia may have broken up, but it’s not going anywhere.
