While brands typically shy away from politics — why alienate half of your potential consumer base when you’re just trying to make a sale? — the overtly political climate proved too tempting to avoid for a handful of brands in this year’s Super Bowl commercials.
Companies took the risk of turning off a few costumers for the reward of creating an ad that is sure to be talked about long after the game wraps. The earliest example this year was Budweiser’s immigration-focused ad, which has already drawn calls for boycott for telling the inspirational story of the company’s owner.
