Sunita Kaur has joined Spotify as the company’s director for Asia. For the past three years, Kaur worked for Facebook, leading the social network’s expansion into the region.
“Spotify has been leading the music revolution across Europe and the U.S. and the opportunity to help continue that journey into Asia was one I wasn’t going to miss,” Kaur said in a release. “We’ve been waiting for Spotify to arrive in Asia for a while and the reception we’ve received has been overwhelming.”
In her new position, Kaur will drive the strategic direction for the company throughout the continent and manage the region’s sales divison. Prior to her stint at Facebook, she served as the associate director, Singapore and International Accounts for Microsoft Advertising.
Over the past year, the music service has been gearing up for a larger push into the Asian market. In April they launched in Hong Kong, Singapore, and Malaysia. The company has been in talks to launch in Japan.
Spotify currently serves 28 markets and is the world’s leading on-demand music subscription service with 6 million paying subscribers.
