U.K. pop act the Sugababes has announced it has signed with Roc Nation, Jay-Z’s entertainment venture with Live Nation.
The girl group launched in 2000 in the U.K. and broke through with second album “Angels With Dirty Faces” in 2002, following a move from London Records to Island/Universal. However, Sugababes has not had a U.S. deal before now although there had been rumors of a new deal.
“We can confirm rumors that we have signed to Roc Nation, Jay-Z’s label,” the Sugababes said on Twitter. “We are looking forward to our very first U.S. release in the future.”
Although its 2008 set “Catfights and Spotlights” performed less strongly in the home market compared to previous multi-platinum albums, the act said it will continue its relationship with Island.
“This album will be released as usual in Europe,” Sugababes said on Twitter. “We are still with Island Records and are excited about our next step.”
Island/Universal in the U.K. did not respond to requests for comment.
