The Strokes, Arctic Monkeys, Portishead and Primal Scream are the first artists to be confirmed for Spain’s 16th Benicassim International Festival (FIB) at the eastern Mediterranean coastal town of Benicassim between July 14-17, 2011, said organizers Maraworld.
FIB is the country’s most important summer festival for international acts, with more than 50% of the up to 200,000 fans who attend coming from northern Europe.
Maraworld says the 4,000 early bird four-day tickets they put on sale in August are sold out. The £145 ($226) tickets include eight days free camping July 11-18 next to the beach.
This year’s FIB 2010 suffered an audience slump to just 127,000 fans, down from FIB 2009’s record 200,000. The proportion of foreign visitors was down to 60% of the total in 2010, compared to 70% of the total a year before.
Maraworld said the 2010 line-up was less enticing than in 2009, with Gorillaz, the Specials, the Progidy, Ray Davies, Kasabian, P.I.L. and Echo & the Bunnymen headlining. In 2009, artists included Oasis, Franz Ferdinand and the Killers.
