Embattled P2P technology company StreamCast Networks, developer of the Morpheus file-sharing software, has inked a deal to sell downloads from independent music distributor IRIS Distribution.
IRIS-repped labels covered under the deal include Duck Down Records, Ghostly International/Spectral Sound, Kranky Records, Megaforce Records/Transdreamer Records, SCI Fidelity, Fat Possum, K Records, Force Inc./Mille Plateaux, Coco Machete, Clone, and Rong.
Smif N Wessun “Tek & Steele,” Ben Taylor “Another Run around the Sun,” Audion “Suckfish,” Boduf Songs “Boduf Songs,” Loren Gold “Keys,” Dressy Bessy “Electrified,” Brother’s Past “This Feeling’s Called Goodbye,” and King Britt “King Britt presents Sister Gertrude Morgan” are among the titles for sale.
Elizabeth Cowley, VP of Business Development for StreamCast says that in addition to selling songs from IRIS, they will also explore the distribution of free music video exclusives, and offering Morpheus users with free content paid for by sponsors.
Identical free content files that may be available on the network will not be filtered by Morpheus.
“The platform is more of a transactional platform than a filtering platform,” says StreamCast CEO Michael Weiss. “The content creators we are working with at the moment don’t see it as a problem.”
