Strand of Oaks reminisces on the days when he first discovered music in the lyric video for “Radio Kids,” premiering exclusively on Billboard.
The folk rocker walks into the video shirtless before putting on a tank and sitting facing the camera as he downs a drink, lights a blunt and combs his hair while the song’s lyrics flash across the screen. Strand of Oaks is the rock project of songwriter and producer Tim Showalter, who is preparing to release his fifth album, Hard Love.
“’Radio Kids’ is about discovery,” Showalter tells Billboard. “That moment when you reach into the abyss and by chance you find magic.”
The lyrics focus on staying up and listening to new songs on the radio because it was a special memory that he held onto before “he lost control.” The song comes from Hard Love, which is set to be released Feb. 17, 2017. The record is said to “explore the balancing act between overindulgence and accountability.”
“I’m worried and scared like all of us these days. But you can watch the world burn and throw in another match, or decide to fight against. ‘Hard Love’ is my fight to keep that magic alive.”
