Calling Boston a “champion city,” Mick Jagger and the rest of the Rolling Stones kicked off their A Bigger Bang world tour last night (Aug. 21) at Fenway Park with the familiar “Start Me Up.” The trek comes in support of the Virgin album “A Bigger Bang,” due Sept. 6.
Several tracks from that set, including the singles “Rough Justice” and “Back of My Hand,” went over especially well. The crowd was also treated to early-set versions of “You Got Me Rocking,” “Shattered” and “Tumbling Dice.”
After the Keith Richards-sung tunes “The Worst” and “Infamy,” a smaller stage was utilized for “Miss You,” the new song “Oh No, Not You Again,” the ageless “Satisfaction” and “Honky Tonk Women.”
The Stones then delivered some of their biggest hits as the main set wound down, trotting out “Sympathy for the Devil,” “Jumping Jack Flash” and “Brown Sugar” in succession. The 130-minute set wrapped with encores of “You Can’t Always Get What You Want” and “It’s Only Rock’n’Roll.”
As reported earlier this morning, a woman was hospitalized with broken bones after she climbed onto the Fenway Park rafters during the show and fell 35 to 40 feet. The 20-year-old woman broke both her ankles and a wrist and was in stable condition at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, according to police.
