As has become something of a tradition, the Rolling Stones will take a break from rehearsing in Toronto for their upcoming tour to play a club show in the city. Tonight’s (Aug. 10) gig will be held at the 1,100-capacity Phoenix Concert Theatre; tickets went on sale this morning for $10 CDN.
This is the fifth such Stones gig in Toronto dating back to a performance at the El Mocambo, part of which was released on the 1977 album “Love You Live.” The group’s most recent show here was in 2002 at Palais Royale.
As previously reported, the Stones’ On Stage tour will begin Aug. 21 in Boston. The group’s new album, “A Bigger Bang,” will arrive Sept. 6 via Virgin; lead single “Rough Justice” is No. 29 in its second week on Billboard’s Mainstream Rock chart.
Meanwhile, footage from an Aug. 31 show in Detroit will air Sept. 8 on ABC as part of “NFL Opening Kickoff 2005,” which will precede the season opener between the Oakland Raiders and New England Patriots.
