Montreal-headquartered Stingray Digital, a digital content provider and operator of Galaxie music service, The Karaoke Channel, and video-on-demand Concert TV, has signed a content agreement with EMI Music.
The deal will give Stingray Digital worldwide rights to the label’s catalogue of music and concert videos. The content will appear on Stingray’s multiple platforms: digital cable, Internet Protocol television (IPTV) and mobile.
Some 40 million customers will have on-demand access to this content on Galaxie and Concert TV in the U.S., Canada and Europe.
“We continue to grow our music products on a worldwide scale across new platforms, and we are actively pursuing global deals that will facilitate the deployment of these services,” Stingray Digital president and CEO Eric Boyko said in the news release. “This innovative deal with EMI Music will secure our access to the best music available on a global as well as on a local scale.”
“We are always looking to find ways for our artists to connect with their existing fans, and to allow a new and broader fanbase to enjoy their music,” EMI Music North America’s vice president, digital business development Pat Shah added. “With its broad distribution of linear audio services in North America and Europe and their video-on-demand music services, Stingray has an important role to play in that goal.”
EMI Music’s library includes thousands of music videos and concerts from such names as Katy Perry, Coldplay, David Guetta, Norah Jones, Lady Antebellum and Keith Urban. The agreement will also allow Stingray to offer content from local EMI artists in European countries where their services are available.
Stingray’s properties include The Karaoke Channel, the world’s largest licensed karaoke library and karaoke service on TV and the Internet; Galaxie, the leading digital music service on TV in Canada; Music Choice Europe, a digital music service on TV in 14 countries in Europe and Africa; Stingray360, a leader in commercial music and video solutions; and its music licensing unit, Stingray Music.
The company is financially backed by Telesystem and Novacap, and employs more than 140 employees in Montreal, Los Angeles and London, England.
