Rod Stewart gets a lift from his ex-Faces bandmate Ron Wood and Pretenders vocalist Chrissie Hynde on the DVD “One Night Only! Rod Stewart Live at Royal Albert Hall.” Due Dec. 7 via J, the 17-track collection was recorded earlier this year at the venerable London venue.
Wood guests on guitar on the Faces’ “Stay With Me,” while Hynde duets with Stewart on the standard “As Time Goes By.” Newcomer Amy Belle is featured on “I Don’t Want To Talk About It,” from Stewart’s 1975 album “Atlantic Crossing.” The 60-piece BBC Concert Orchestra and the London Community Gospel Choir back Stewart throughout.
The show blends selections from Stewart’s recent foray into recording standards (“Blue Moon,” “What a Wonderful World”) with solo hits such as “Rhythm of My Heart” and medley of “Maggie May” and “Gasoline Alley.” Among the DVD bonus features are a 5.1 audio mix, rehearsal and backstage footage and an interview with Stewart.
The artist recently hit No. 1 on The Billboard 200 with “Stardust…The Great American Songbook, Vol. 3.” He has begun lining up his 2005 tour schedule, which begins Feb. 5 in Christchurch, N.Z., and has dates on tap through June 14 in Munich.
