MEXICO CITY (The Hollywood Reporter) — Mexican broadcaster TV Azteca has named Adrian Steckel president/CEO of its U.S. Spanish-language broadcasting network Azteca America.
Steckel replaces Luis Echarte, who will remain Azteca America’s chairman of the board.
Prior to the appointment, Steckel was chief executive at Unefon, a mobile telephone unit owned by Azteca chairman/CEO Ricardo Salinas. Moises Saba will replace Steckel as head of Unefon.
Salinas is facing fraud charges in the U.S. for a debt refinancing transaction that allegedly allowed him and business partner Saba to profit $218 million.
Azteca America is looking to boost its stateside presence. The network ranks third among U.S. Spanish-language broadcasters, behind market leaders Univision and Telemundo.
