The Standing Rock Sioux Tribe scored a victory on Sunday when it was announced alternate routes would be sought for the Dakota Access Pipeline.
Though this victory was no small feat, following months of protest, it by no means marks the end of the fight or its cause. With that in mind, Goldenvoice announced the We Rock with Standing Rock benefit concert, organized by Kyp Malone of TV on the Radio, to offer continued support to the Standing Rock Reservation water protectors of North Dakota.
“If this win were to stick, it still would be a first step. There are 500 legal charges still pending toward the water protectors,” Malone said. “This means they will need continued support. Even without the threat of an oil pipeline poisoning the water, life on reservations are so often ones of deprivation, unconscionably low life expectancy, infant mortality, and adolescent suicide all pointing to the continued need for us to stand in support of First Nations people. We need to keep the light shining on this.”
The benefit is being held Dec. 18 at the Fonda Theatre in Los Angeles and will feature special performances by artists like Sky Ferreira, TV on the Radio, Fiona Apple and many more.
