There was an error at Game 5 of the World Series even before the first pitch.
Country singer Aaron Lewis stumbled early on during his rendition of “The Star-Spangled Banner” on Sunday night.
After starting with “O say can you see by the dawn’s early light, what so proudly we hailed,” Lewis diverted from the lyrics. Instead of singing “at the twilight’s last gleaming” he sang “were so gallantly streaming,” words that appear later in the national anthem.

Lewis, the frontman of Staind, has immersed himself in country music in recent years, a genre he admits he grew up with. Though his performance of the anthem wasn’t the best, it certainly wasn’t the worst. That dubious honor arguably goes to Kat DeLuna, who featured at the top of the Billboard.com list of most cringe-worthy renditions of the “Star-Spangled Banner.”
