Putting art rock mastermind St. Vincent through the “what’s your makeup regimen?” routine isn’t something anyone was expecting (it’s typically reserved for pop singers and reality stars), but when you’re The New York Times, you can get away with a lot of things.
While the details are fairly unsurprising (the indie star plays it cool, describing her skincare routine as “very low maintenance, bordering on extreme laziness”), the piece includes a few delicious gems from the mouth of Annie Clark.
When it came to describing her hair, St. Vincent revealed the two style icons that inspire her: demonic troubadour Nick Cave and McDonald’s mascot Fry Guy.

“I’m just going to go into the salon and say I want the Nick Cave minus the receding hairline. My hair is pretty Fry Guy,” she explained of the lavender pouf she rocked in recent years (and on the cover of her self-titled 2014 masterpiece).
“I have long fringe that starts at the crown of my head, but then it’s really curly in the back,” she said. “For events, I’ve been straightening it and slicking it back. It’s also back to dark, and there’s about 2.5 inches of actually natural color that’s healthy and still about two inches of the boy-band frosted tips that have been dyed over.”

The singer-songwriter also dished on her diet.
“Diet? Pass on that,” she told The New York Times.
Never change, Ms. Clark (incidentally, kudos to NYT for getting through an article on her without referring to her as “Ms. Clark” once).
