For the second time this year, Bruce Springsteen makes a stand at No. 1 on Billboard’s Hot Tours chart with box office stats reported from his world tour that kicked off last month. Touring behind the January release of his album “High Hopes,” the veteran rocker tops this week’s ranking with $26.7 million in ticket sales from the first five markets on his trek through Australia and New Zealand. Along with sold out arena performances in Perth, Adelaide and Sydney, he also packed the stands for his only stadium date in Australia, a two-night run at Melbourne’s AAMI Park. The ticket count was 62,950 combined for both concerts at the outdoor rugby venue on Feb. 15 & 16. With a gross of $9.2 million, the Melbourne engagement is the tour’s top-grosser so far.
Springsteen previously performed at one other stadium on this outing, FNB Stadium in Johannesburg, during the tour’s opening trek through two South African markets. Although most of this tour is set in arenas and outdoor amphitheaters, two more stadium performances are included on the itinerary. Auckland’s Mount Smart Stadium will host the Boss on March 1 and 2, his only appearance in New Zealand on this jaunt, and he is booked at Hersheypark Stadium in Pennsylvania on May 14 during the tour’s North American leg.
Country star Brad Paisley enters the Hot Tours roundup at No. 3 this week with revenue reported from four sold out arena concerts on his 2014 Beat This Winter tour. The nine-city jaunt during January and February is the re-named continuation of last year’s Beat This Summer tour that grossed over $22 million from more than half a million sold tickets during the summer and fall seasons. With Chris Young and Danielle Bradbery in tow as show openers, Paisley’s winter effort has added an additional $2.8 million to the tour’s overall gross from 50,000 sold tickets at six venues reported so far. The winter tour wraps in the U.S. on March 1, but a series of European shows are booked for the remainder of the month. A new summer tour, set to launch in May, is currently booked at summer festivals and outdoor amphitheaters through late-September.
