While the business is buzzing about what Spotify users are losing in the upcoming changes to their free services, several new features will arrive “in the next few weeks,” Spotify Communications Manager Jim Butcher tells Billboard. The pending arrival of new features was mentioned in Daniel Ek’s blog post about the new changes to Spotify’s free service.
“We’ll be bringing out some awesome new features as well as significant improvements over the coming months, which will make the Spotify experience even better,” Ek wrote near the bottom of the controversial post.
“It’s too early to say what those features are,” says Butcher. “They’re going to be sizable new features.”
In the past Spotify has added new features such as social features (including Facebook integration), an inbox, playlist publishing and linking to local files within the application.
Users should definitely not expect a family plan similar to how mobile phone plans are packaged and priced, which a number of users requested in the comments section of Ek’s post.
“These are the kinds of features we need to be looking at going forward, looking at how families use the service,” says Butcher. “Nothing to announce just yet.”
