Music streaming service Spotify has shown off its new mobile service working with Google’s Android platform.
The company, based in London and Stockholm, has posted a demo online at YouTube. The company stressed that the app for Android-powered mobile phones is a work in progress and said there are other mobile apps being developed. An iPhone Spotify app is also being worked on.
Details of the mobile version of Spotify were revealed on Billboard.biz (May 15, 2009) during the Great Escape conference in Brighton this month.
The demo highlights features including playback, playlists, offline synch and music search. It was shown to Android developers at the Google I/O conference in San Francisco, held May 27-28.
Spotify offers ad-funded free streaming services for registered users in the U.K., Sweden, Norway, Finland, France and Spain, while the premium service is additionally available in those countries as well as various other European territories. It is not yet available in the U.S.
Meanwhile, Spotify’s premium subscribers in the U.K. can now get a preview of the new Dave Matthews Band album “Big Whiskey And The GrooGrux King” (Warner Music) ahead of its June 1 release.
