Spoon, the Clipse, Girl Talk, Aesop Rock, the Thermals, Wolf Parade, Deerhunter and Brian Jonestown Massacre are among the acts confirmed for the seventh annual Williamette Week’s Musicfest NW, set for Sept. 6-9 in Portland, Ore.
The event will be held at various venues throughout Portland, including the Crystal Ballroom, Doug Fir Lounge, Roseland Theater, Dante’s, Fez Ballroom and Hawthorne Theatre. Other acts confirmed to appear at the festival include Roky Erickson & the Explosives, Okkervil River, the Bronx, Helio Sequence, Dan Deacon, Viva Voce, the Shaky Hands, Grizzly Bear and YACHT.
Trevor Solomon, executive director of Musicfest NW, says the event continues to grow each year. “Last year was our biggest year ever,” he tells Billboard.com, citing a 100% attendance in growth from the year prior.
“We expect this year to be as big, if not bigger,” he continues. “We’ve expanded it and brought in national bands that people want to see … they are bands that are very indie-friendly and up and coming in this market and other markets as well.”
Four-day wristbands, which give concertgoers access to all venues, cost $40. The Roseland Theater and Crystal Ballroom will be the only venues offering advance ticket sales for concerts, while all other individual tickets will be available for purchase at venues on the day of the show.
Throughout the festival, Seattle radio station KEXP-FM will host performances from a number of acts on the MFNW bill, which will be broadcast live from Portland’s Doug Fir Lounge. The performances will also be streamed online through KEXP’s Web site.
Some of the proceeds from this year’s festival will benefit the Oregon Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, and the Rock’n’Roll Camp for Girls. Along with Portland’s Williamette Week, event sponsors include Nike, TicketsWest, Comcast, Rockstar Energy Drink, BMI and others.
