The inaugural Mekka tour has joined forces with the hip-hop-leaning Spitkicker tour, adding De La Soul, Common, Biz Markie, Talib Kweli, and others to its already extensive roster of electronic artists. A spokesperson for Mekka says hip-hop talent for each date is still being finalized for the 10-city tour, which begins Aug. 4 in Detroit and wraps Sept. 2 in San Francisco.
The Spitkicker tour, now in its second year, is organized by veteran hip-hop act De La Soul, who promise many collaborations between the artists. Expected pairings include De La Soul and Common for “The Bizness,” Kweli and Common for “Respiration,” Kweli and De La Soul for “Soul Rebels,” and at least one song with all of the participating Spitkicker performers.
As previously reported, the likes of Roni Size, BT, Paul Oakenfold, Carl Craig, the Crystal Method, and Armand Van Helden will anchor the Mekka, which will feature between four and six stages, depending on the city.
