U.K. psychedelic rock act Spiritualized, whose fifth studio album “Amazing Grace” is due Sept. 9 from Spaceman/Sanctuary Records, have set a host of North American tour dates in October and November, following a European outing supporting the new disc.
The European dates start Sept. 10 in Northampton, England. The North American trek then commences Oct. 10 in New Haven, Conn., and encompasses 26 gigs through the Nov. 22 closer in Atlanta. The tour includes a trio of shows at New York’s Irving Plaza and two-night stands in Toronto, Los Angeles and Austin, Texas.
Frontman Jason Pierce recently spoke to Billboard.com about his excitement for touring behind the new album, which was recorded in a rawer, more “live” fashion than past Spiritualized releases. “It’s the first album [of ours] that’s kind of ready to go,” he said. “It’s off the peg and onto the stage. It doesn’t need to be deconstructed in terms of ‘how can we make this work live?’ or ‘what can we do to try to recreate this in a live version?’ We can just take it straight out.”
“Amazing Grace” will be the group’s first studio album since 2001’s “Let It Come Down” (Spaceman/Arista). That set debuted at No. 3 on Billboard’s Heatseekers chart and has sold 56,000 copies in the U.S., according to Nielsen SoundScan.
