Earlier this year, a Spanish musician was asked by his doctors to play the saxophone during a lengthy brain operation to make sure they weren’t affecting his musical abilities. The result was pretty magnificent.
Carlos Aguilera, who was partially and on painkillers, managed to play jazz standard “Misty” and other songs during the 12-hour surgery in mid-October, NPR reports. The delicate surgery involved a team of 16 doctors tasked with removing a brain tumor.
Aguilera, 27, recently went public to say he’s healthy and continues to play saxophone with an orchestra in Malaga, Spain.
