Barcelona’s waterfront will get loud this May. Nine Inch Nails, Disclosure, and Laurent Garnier join already confirmed headliners Arcade Fire for the 14th annual Primavera Sound Festival May 29-31 at Barcelona’s waterfront Parc del Fòrum. Unveiling it’s the lineup through a short film, screened tonight in Barcelona and online, the festival added another layer of media mystique to the ritualized anticipation of a festival line-up reveal.
“We felt we needed something different for this years extraordinary roster,” founder Pablo Soler told Billboard. “After several projects were rejected the idea of a short movie became a must-do, and our friend Alex Julia was the right person to film it.”
Filmed in Detroit, the clip starts in the legendary Found Sound record shop, revealing lineup artists with flashes of posters, vinyl covers and t-shirts donned by the actors. The plot meanders its way around a hallowed-out city of Detroit and suburban Michigan with the lead character at one point trying to make his way to a Pixies concert.
“[It’s] a movie about how life turns around in a loop, just like a record,” Soler explains.
While past iterations of the festival have largely featured rock acts, Primavera expands seriously into dance music this year with the inclusion of Disclosure along with Holy Ghost! and Moderat amongst others.
While it wasn’t broadcast too loudly in the film, UK shoegaze outfit Slowdive will reunite at the festival, playing the first gig in over a decade.
A sister festival with a similar lineup is scheduled for the following weekend in Portugal. Its lineup will be announced with less fanfare next month.
