Rapper Lil Wayne will this week unveil his fifth album, “Tha Carter II,” as the first release through his newly formed Young Money Entertainment imprint with Cash Money Records. The set also includes a “Chopped & Screwed” CD featuring several of the artist’s hit songs, such as “The Block Is Hot,” “500 Degrees” and “Go DJ.”
Mannie Fresh and the Doe Boys lend production assistance on the album, which also features guest appearances from Kurupt, Fresh and Cash Money staples Baby and Lil’ Mo, among others.
The video for lead single “Fireman” was shot in September in Houston and New Orleans, from where the artist hails. “It’s been a very tough month,” Lil Wayne admits. “I put everything I had into this song, and now the video, hopefully as an inspiration to everyone who wants to see New Orleans come back bigger and badder than ever.”
“Tha Carter II” is the aptly named follow-up to 2004’s “Tha Carter,” which debuted at No. 5 on The Billboard 200 and has sold more than 878,000 copies in the United States, according to Nielsen SoundScan. Lil Wayne has also been heard this year guesting on tracks by Destiny’s Child, Bobby Valentino and Baby.
