Warner Music Group has acquired German-based digital music distribution company Zebralution, sources tell Billboard.biz at the Midem music trade convention in Cannes.
Kurt Thielen, founder/managing director of Duisburg, Germany-based Zebralution declined to comment on the deal.
Founded in December 2003, Zebralution serves as an important digital distributor to the independent label community, and has rolled out a global footprint.
The company expanded into the United Kingdom in April 2006 under James Kyllo, the former GM of Britain’s Assn. of Independent Music’s new media arm.
Aside from its German HQ and London affiliate, the firm also operates from locations in Berlin, Los Angeles and Paris. The firm is also currently a member of AIM, the IFPI and German independent labels body VUT.
