Philly rock outfit Soraia has dropped a new video for their latest single “Tight-Lipped,” a fast-paced rock track celebrating the triumphs of speaking from a place of personal truth.
Led by lead singer and co-songwriter ZouZou Mansour, Soraia is bassist and co-songwriter Travis Smith, Brianna Sig on drums and Nick Taddia on guitar. Mansour is a songwriter that has long had the support of Jon Bon Jovi and Billy Falcon, who are listed as co-writers for Soraia’s 2013 album In the Valley of Love and Guns. After catching the attention of Steven Van Zandt, Soraria was signed to the E Street Band member’s Wicked Cool Records in 2016 where they’ve been releasing music ever since around the themes of empowerment, loss, triumph, and despair.
“‘Tight-Lipped’ is about a woman who politely refuses to challenge the status quo and direction of her life,” Mansour tells Billboard. “It’s a final recognition of the part she has played in her own oppressive censoring — a soulful rebuke of her former beliefs on how to live.”
“As soon as I heard it, I knew the track deserved something grungy, powerful, and vibrant,” explains video director Sam Shapson, noting that “Tight-Lipped” was steeped in literary references to The Tyger by William Blake and Shakespeare’s Hamlet. “I started imagining a simple scenario that expressed those themes metaphorically in a way that excited me. In this case, that was through homage to a few of my favorite thriller genre films.”
