Rob Wiesenthal has been named president of international at Sony/ATV Music Publishing, the company announced today. Wiesenthal, who was formerly executive VP/CFO at Sony Corp. of America and chief strategy officer for Sony Entertainment, will be based in New York and report to Sony/ATV chairman and CEO Martin Bandier.
In his new position, Wiesenthal is responsible for oversight of all territories worldwide excluding North America and the UK.
In addition to working with the heads of the various territories to develop, promote and implement the company’s strategic goals, Wiesenthal will become part of Sony/ATV’s senior executive management team and will advise Bandier on new business initiatives, strategic partnerships and other potential opportunities to enhance Sony/ATV’s business operations.
Prior to his appointment, Wiesenthal had been instrumental in the various acquisitions Sony/ATV has made over the last five years, including leading the efforts to buy Famous Music, the Leiber & Stoller catalog and the pending deal for EMI Music Publishing by a Sony-led consortium of investors.
Prior to joining Sony, Wiesenthal was the leading media investment banker for Credit Suisse First Boston (CSFB) and served as the advisor on Seagram’s $5.7 billion acquisition of MCA Inc.
