Troy Tomlinson has been promoted to president and CEO of Sony/ATV Music Publishing Nashville and will replace Donna Hilley, who is retiring after serving 31 years with the company. Tomlinson will be based in Nashville and will report to David Hockman, chairman and CEO, Sony ATV Music Publishing.
In this role, Tomlinson will supervise all creative elements for Sony/ATV Music Publishing Nashville including the signing of new writers. He is also responsible for developing and implementing the strategy necessary to create and exploit the company’s catalogue.
“Troy’s impressive career over the past 20 years, first at Acuff Rose music publishing, and then at Sony/ATV Music Publishing Nashville, made him an obvious choice for the position when Donna announced her retirement. It is a pleasure to promote someone of Troy’s caliber who is from the Sony family,” said Hockman in a statement. “Over the years, Troy has managed the careers of some of the world’s most prominent writers and artists. He is a veteran of the industry who is regarded with enormous respect.
From 2002 to 2005, Tomlinson served as VP of creative for Sony/ATV Music Publishing Nashville. In 2002 he helped with the implementation of the Sony /ATV Music Publishing acquisition of Acuff Rose Music Publishing. During this tenure, he was responsible for the Acuff Rose catalog and its writers, as well as Sony ATV writers, including Kenny Chesney, Gretchen Wilson and Rodney Crowell, among others.
In 1988 he joined Acuff Rose Music Publishing as creative manager. Over his fourteen years with the company, he held several different positions, eventually obtaining the title of Executive Vice President, where he was responsible for all revenue-generating departments as well as a roster of over 25 writers.
