Sony/ATV Music Publishing has partnered with Spanish authors’ and publishers’ society SGAE on a pan-European digital and online license. It will cover the rights to Spanish and Latin repertoire owned, controlled or administered by Sony/ATV.
The agreement will mean there is now a one-stop shop for businesses seeking a single unified license for the whole of Europe, covering all necessary rights for the relevant Sony/ATV repertoire.
It follows a ruling by the European Commission in July that said societies should remove all obstacles impeding a pan-European performing rights licensing system.
Guy Henderson, senior VP International at Sony/ATV, said in a statement: “We are very pleased to be in the pan-European digital business with SGAE. This deal not only includes our very important Spanish repertoire, but enables us to bring our Latin American repertoire into the pan-European licensing marketplace in a logical, orderly and integrated fashion.”
The SGAE and Sony/ATV deal is intended to speed up the expansion of existing mobile and online digital services and encourage the development of new services, and provide new opportunities for Sony/ATV songwriters.
Enrique Loras, general director of SGAE, added: “For SGAE it is a great opportunity to manage the Latin authors’ rights joining with one of the worldwide leaders in the musical edition area.”
