Sony Music’s Lisa Ellis has been promoted to the new position of GM of Sony Urban Music. Based in New York, Ellis reports to Sony Music U.S. president Don Ienner.
In her new post, Ellis will work with Ienner to supervise Sony Urban Music’s day-to-day operations. She will also interact with the U.S. labels and divisions on Urban matters.
Ellis was most recently senior VP of strategic marketing and music licensing for Sony Music, a post she held since 2003. She joined Columbia Records in 1995 and held a number of positions there, including senior VP of R&B/rhythm-crossover promotion.
Meanwhile, David McPherson, executive VP of Sony Urban Music, has exited the company. The five-year company veteran had held the post since last year.
