Sony Pictures Entertainment announced yesterday (Nov. 18) that its home-entertainment division, Columbia TriStar Home Entertainment, will now be called Sony Pictures Home Entertainment (SPHE).
The name change will take effect with the Nov. 30 DVD release of “Spider-Man 2.”
According to a statement, the SPHE name better reflects a cross-company brand.
“Sony is the No. 1 brand name in the world with a universally acknowledged reputation of excellence for innovative products, uncompromised quality and outstanding entertainment,” says Benjamin S. Feingold, president of SPHE.
“The message that this name change sends is that SPHE products will continue to mirror these same qualities by providing both the latest in home entertainment technology as well as hugely entertaining content. As the home entertainment group celebrates its 25th anniversary and having moved from an analog to a digital world, it seems timely and fitting to now add the Sony brand to our divisional name.”
