Sony Music Entertainment’s president of global digital business and U.S. sales Dennis Kooker announced the creation and appointment of two new, digitally focused positions; current Sony Music executive Ole Obermann has been named executive vice president, digital partner development and sales, while Mark Piibe will be leaving EMI to take on the role of executive vice president, global business development and digital strategy.
Obermann has been with Sony Music since 2006, with previous positions at Liquid Digital Music and Walmart.com. Obermann will be based in London, overseeing a team “solely focused on working with our largest partners,” as Kooker’s statement reads, “to maximize their growth a worldwide basis.”
Piibe will be tasked with conceptualizing new avenues of growth for the company in the digital space and creating new partnerships in the global marketplace. “Mark is responsible for leading the structuring, analyzing and negotiating of new digital deals. He is based in New York and reports to me,” said Kooker. Previously, Piibe was the associate general counsel at the original iteration of Napster, as well as senior vice president and head of content at MusicGremlin, a subscription-based startup in New York.
Said Kooker: “With their deep understanding of the digital marketplace and strong industry relationships, we are well-positioned to super-serve our largest digital customers and further enhance our focus on identifying and developing new digital business opportunities for our artists and labels.”
