Sony BMG Entertainment U.K. is to organize its frontline music divisions into two new label groups, with effect from Jan. 31.
The two units, Columbia Label Group and the RCA Label Group, will operate from the major’s Bedford House headquarters in London.
Mike Smith joins the company as managing director of Columbia Label Group. As previously reported, Smith recently exited as London-based senior VP and director of A&R at EMI Music Publishing U.K.
At RCA Label Group, Craig Logan has been named MD. Logan, a former member of British pop trio Bros, has served as an executive with EMI Music and has experience in production, publishing and management. Most recently, he has represented Pink as manager.
Smith and Logan report to Sony BMG president of music division Ged Doherty.
“In less than a year we have successfully merged two large U.K. companies,” comments Sony BMG Music U.K. chairman/CEO Rob Stringer. “This has been greatly the result of a huge internal effort by our staff. We now want to give our company and its phenomenal roster a greater external identity through two distinct label groups.”
The two label groups will handle releases from such international labels as Columbia, Epic, Jive, J and RCA, and domestic imprints Cheeky, Deltasonic, Modest, Phonogenic and Syco Music.
