Sony BMG Music Entertainment Australia has set up a TV production division. Its music and entertainment programming will heavily feature its acts, says the company’s chairman and CEO, Denis Handlin.
“We are in the entertainment business and increasingly, our sales are of audiovisual materials such as music video and live performances,” comments Handlin. “Our plan is to extend the boundaries of music and entertainment TV production through creative new programming ideas that we are developing.”
The company is recruiting an executive to head the division, reporting to Handlin. SBMEA’s partner in the venture is Crackerjack Productions, which produces the weekly “So Fresh” music show on the free to air Nine Network.
Sydney-based Crackerjack was launched in 1992 by producers Mark and Carl Fennessy. SBMEA and Crackerjack have previously collaborated on DVDs and television commercials.
