Sony BMG has bought a majority stake in the Copenhagen-based Kick Music label for an undisclosed sum. Kick, one of the oldest and biggest indies in Denmark, will continue to operate independently out of its present HQ. Michael Quvang will remain as MD of Kick.
Kick products were previously distributed by Copenhagen-based GDC but distribution will now be handled by Sony BMG’s partner ENS of Sweden.
“WIth Sony BMG’s comprehensive distribution network for physical and digital releases, our artists and releases will be in a stronger position in the future,” says Quvang in a statement.
Kick was established in 1990 and was successful at exploiting TV advertising for Danish acts. The company’s roster includes domestic acts Backstreet, Powersolo, Ida Coor and they have licensed international artists’ releases including Gogol Bordello, The Hellacopters and Eva Cassidy.
