Songwriters Miguel Angel Romero and Claudia Brant, along with indie publisher Editora de Ideas, were the big winners at the annual Premios SESAC Latina music awards, which took place June 29 at the Beverly Hills Hotel in Los Angeles.
Romero won songwriter of the year for works that included his hit composition “Dime Que me Quieres.” Recorded by regional Mexican icons Banda el Recodo, the song also won song of the year and helped propel its publisher, Editora de Ideas, to win the publisher of the year award.

Meantime, pop hit “Lo Mejor de mi vida eres tú,” recorded by Ricky Martin and featuring Natalia Jiménez, won the #1 Billboard Award. The track was penned by Claudia Brant and published under her own Nana Maluca Music.
The SESAC Latina awards are given to the most performed Latin compositions in U.S. radio that were written by SESAC affiliates.
Aside from Romero’s “Dime que me quieres,” the winning compositions of the evening were “Millonario de amor,” written by Brant and performed by regional Mexican singer Sergio Vega; “El Doctorado,” written by Chris Syler and performed by reggaetón act Tony Dize; “Besos de Amor,” written by Ricky Rick and performed by urban artist Flex (feat. Ricky Rick); “Tus ojos no me ven,” written and performed by romantic urban artist Joey Montana; and “Looking for Paradise,” co-written by Swizz Beats and performed by Alejandro Sanz and featuring Alicia Keys.
