Saturday Night Live comedian Pete Davidson’s recent apology to Congressman-elect Dan Crenshaw over controversial jokes he made about the war veteran’s eye patch is drawing mixed reactions on Twitter.
On Saturday (Nov. 10), Davidson appeared on SNL‘s “Weekend Update” to apologize for previously making fun of the former Navy SEAL, who lost an eye in an IED blast while serving in Afghanistan in 2012.
“For one day, Republicans and Democrats agreed on one thing: I’m a dick,” Davidson said during his apology on “Weekend Update,” the same segment where he initially mocked Crenshaw.
Crenshaw then made a surprise appearance on “Weekend Update” to personally accept Davidson’s apology. The congressman-elect got some payback by trolling Davidson with a ringtone of a new song by the comedian’s ex-girlfriend, Ariana Grande.
Despite his best effort to straighten out the situation, Davidson still received some major pushback from SNL viewers on Twitter. Others, however, found the comedian’s apology sincere and praised him for being mature about the situation.
See the mixed reactions to Davidson’s apology below.
Pete Davidson’s apology sketch for last weekend’s offense also managed to fold in a reference to Ariana Grande?! How do they do it!?!

You troll elsewhere. Pete Davidson is scum. His producers made him apologize. If it were up to him he’d never meet a veteran in his life

It’s sad that Pete Davidson had to apologize to that vet. COMEDIANS are held to a higher moral standards than the president.

p.s. Pete Davidson’s stupid jokes are not a valid reason

Do people not realize that Pete Davidson lost his father in 9/11?? I understand the criticism, I guess….but he definitely understands sacrifice, and this was a healing moment showing again humor and compassion always win. Well done.

Pete Davidson was a class act last night

Earlier in the week “Dan Crenshaw” said he didn’t want an apology and said the “apology culture” was wrong for America. I think that’s why SNL asked him on. That bit was probably a turning point for his future, “Pete Davidson” and possibly SNL. Best moment on live TV in ages.

This was fantastic. Sometimes we say insensitive things. Most of us don’t do it on TV. Fitting apology. Admirable for both #DanCrenshaw & #PeteDavidson for different reasons.#snl #NeverForget https://t.co/WNlApsBxDT

I’d watch an Odd Couple remake featuring Dan Crenshaw and Pete Davidson

No matter your feelings on the skit this was a stand up move by SNL and Pete Davidson. https://t.co/XRRVhrkTJ4

I wasn’t a fan of coming after a veteran. I am a fan of SNL making it right. Pete Davidson’s job is to make harsh jokes, Dan Crenshaw did a good job not making a huge deal about it last week. Joked right back. https://t.co/4pffcUlCqq

The Dan Crenshaw and Pete Davidson moment on @nbcsnl was cute and all, but PD must be fired, right? Isn’t that how this works? Even after an apology, he still must be fired? Hold on, let me check the political parties of the offender and the offended…oh, OK, never mind. #snl

One of the most powerful moments on all of TV this week happened on SNL.

I just know Lorne told Pete Davidson to do this to keep his job, it’s the only real money-making gig he has.

So I was actually bothered by what he said but Pete Davidson did something better than an apology: he totally redeemed himself https://t.co/1pXLm99lUk
