Sky Ferreira’s quiet spell is coming to an end with the alt-pop singer promising new music “very soon”. But first, she needs to get healthy.
The Californian singer, model and actress revealed she’s been battling with illness “for a long time” but has worked on new songs throughout her ordeal.
In a string of tweets, Ferreira sounded enthusiastic about her new creations, and for her recovery from the mystery ailment. “Here’s one of the several reasons why I can’t wait to put something out: certain people will be forced to come up with their own identity & artistic vision,” she wrote.
“The only reason I can’t put a ton of new music all at once is because I’m ill & have been for a while. I have to get completely better so I can tour & actually promote it. I was misdiagnosed for a long time & I’m now just starting to actually recover. I am still putting out new music very soon though & have been working on it the entire time.”

It’s been four years since the release of Ferreira’s debut album Night Time, My Time, which arrived in October 2013 after a long delay. It was a particularly eventful period for the artist who, in the space of three weeks, was arrested in Saugerties, New York for drug possession with her then boyfriend, DIIV frontman Zachary Cole Smith, and sustained a hemorrhage of her vocal cords, resulting in the cancelation of a handful of concerts.
Ferreira announced back in April 2015 she was working on a sophomore album, Masochism, which was tentatively due out the following year. It never came, though Ferreira has since enjoyed a handful of film and TV roles, including Baby Driver and Twin Peaks, and in 2016 she collaborated with Primal Scream on “Where The Light Gets In”, taken from the British alternative rock outfit’s eleventh studio set Chaosmosis. Earlier this year she opened for Blondie and Garbage on the Rage and Rapture Tour.
