It’s almost time for fans of all ages to dive deep into the world of Kingdom Hearts III. The beloved video game series pits Square Enix and Disney characters together in the adventure of a lifetime, and it’s been more than 10 years since a new full installment in the game was released, but come Jan. 29, the story continues, and of course, it’s got to have a bangin’ soundtrack.
Japanese pop star Utada Hikaru has long been the voice of the Kingdom Hearts universe, and Skrillex has long been a fan of the game. The producer gladly accepted an offer to work with Hikaru, and what originally began as a remix of her single “Don’t Think Twice” quickly evolved into a whole new tune, the Kingdom Hearts III theme “Face My Fears.”
It’s a bright, cinematic future bass tune that captures the energetic spirit of the game. The song features additional songriting credits from Skrillex’s “Would You Ever” collaborator Poo Bear. It’s opens thoughtful and ballad-like, but as our heroes find themselves in the thick of battle, “Face My Fears” turns to meet the call of the hour with boisterous beats and Skrillex’s signature vocal chop.
Both an English and Japanese language version has been released, but you can watch the English version lyric video below. Look out for more information on everything Kingdom Hearts III by visiting the official website.
