Tributes have been pouring in since the announcement of Swedish DJ and producer Avicii’s death on Friday (April 20). The musician — born Tim Bergling — was a mainstay in the EDM scene during the genre’s mainstream emergence and brought audiences hits like “Levels” and “Wake Me Up.” Now, he’s being remembered by another major figure of the genre: Skrillex.
Skrillex (ne Sonny Moore) took to Twitter to share his condolences and called Bergling “a genius and an innovator, yet sensitive and humble.” The 30-year-old producer remixed Avicii’s “Levels” in 2011 and, according to the note, it’s been a component of his DJ sets since then.
Moore also admitted that he and Bergling weren’t close friends, but “Levels” gave the two a deep connection. “I just wish I could have hugged him more and told him it would be okay,” he said.
The loss is being felt throughout the music community as a whole, with other performers taking to social media to offer their condolences, including Avicii collaborators Aloe Blacc and Rita Ora.
