Pixies reunion dates in Europe are tracking at the same torrid pace as U.S. concerts. All 19,000 seats for the band’s four London shows at the Brixton Academy sold out within two hours. The Pixies begin a European run on May 26 at Kaplakrika in Reykjavik, Iceland. The shows conclude Aug. 22 at V2004 in Chelmsford, England.
In the United States, the Pixies’ 14 warm-up dates prior to their May 1 Coachella Festival appearance in Indio, Calif., are all sold out. The U.S. run begins with an April 13 show at the Fine Line Music Cafe in Minneapolis, which sold out in four minutes.
Meanwhile, a “major-market North American tour throughout the whole fall into December” is in the works, according to Pixies agent Marc Geiger at the William Morris Agency. “The size of the venue is going to vary from probably 2,500 to 10,000, depending on the market. It is an embarrassment of choices,” says Geiger.
Additionally, “Pixies,” a DVD featuring eight of the band’s classic videos, a live recording of a 1988 London concert, a band documentary and “behind the scenes” footage, will be released May 4 on 4AD/Beggars Group, as will the greatest-hits “Wave of Mutilation” CD.
