Seemingly-unbeatable girl group SISTAR have done it again as their latest single rules the K-Pop Hot 100 this week. The burlesque-pop hybrid title track to their “Give It to Me” album rocketed up to No. 1 giving the group their fourth chart topper since its August 2011 creation.
SISTAR also takes the No. 2, No. 3 and seven other spots on the K-Pop Hot 100 with ten other LP tracks chart from such high digital and mobile sales. The only track to not make it from the album was an instrumental of “Give It to Me.”
A takeover like this has not been seen since January when Girls’ Generation charted all ten songs from their “I Got a Boy” record. Girls’ Generation charted tracks from slots No. 1 to No. 76 while SISTAR spread from No. 1 to No. 65. Their full chart dominance ranges:
No. 1 “Give It to Me”
No. 2 “The Way You Make Me Melt” (feat. Geeks)
No. 3 “Bad Boy”
No. 18 “Crying”
No. 21 “Summer Time”
No. 27 “A Week”
No. 52 “If U Want”
No. 55 “Hey You”
No. 62 “Miss Sistar (feat. Double Kick, Joo Heon)
No. 65 “Up and Down”
Until now, SISTAR and indie pop-rock band Busker Busker were tied for three No. 1s each. SISTAR now pulls ahead of the “Cherry Blossom Ending” singers. Take a look at one of their retro-themed comeback stages on a music program. They were lucky enough to perform three songs “Miss Sistar,” “Hey You” and “Give It to Me.” (Most top-tier artists only perform two for comebacks)
After School’s hard work (and injuries) have proved worth it as their new single “First Love” zooms in at No. 8. The eight-member group has paired their sensual, 90s R&B feeling track with a risky pole dancing routine that had sidelined member Lizzy after a spraining a leg ligament. While filming a TV appearance this week, member Nana suffered a nasty fall (not related to the routine) and missed performances as well. Yet the girl group continues to prevail, still nailing the performance as six and now have another Top 10 single to their name. Check out Jung-Ah, Jooyeon, Uee, Raina, E-Young and Kaeun perform below:
If SISTAR and After School weren’t clear enough examples, the K-Pop chart is having a bit of a girl group takeover.
Jung Eunji (of A Pink) is at No. 6 with her duet with Huh Gak, “Short Hair.” Yubin, the sexy rapper from on-hiatus Wonder Girls, returns as the featured guest on K-diva Ivy’s return single “I Dance.” Also, 4minute’s former No. 1 “What’s Your Name” is still hanging in the Top 10 at No. 9. Check out Ivy bringing Yubin back to the K-pop world with their music video below.
