Sirius XM Radio, which broadcasts more than 135 satellite radio channels, is expanding its lineup with a new suite of commercial-free Latino channels, the company has announced.
The new features includes the expansion of music, sports, news, talk and entertainment as part of new programming in the first phase of SiriusXM 2.0, part of a new technology upgrade to enhance hardware, software, audio and data services.
Upgrades include 25% more bandwidth capacity while maintaining the quality of channels that can be accessed through Internet radio, mobile devices and satellite radio through SiriusXM Edge.
“The new suite of channels, including the most comprehensive Latin programming lineup, makes our combined offering of English and Spanish audio entertainment second to none,” SiriusXM Mel Karmazin CEO said in a prepared statement.
Expanded programming on SiriusXM includes channels such as “Caliente,” “Viva,” and “La Mezcla,” which includes some of the biggest names in Latin music. Some channels will incorporate English-language artists such as Katy Perry, Lady Gaga and Britney Spears who are popular among Spanish-language audiences.
SiriusXM will continue to offer Spanish-language sports through live play-by-play NFL coverage through the Deportes en Vivo channels. Additionally, college sports, MLB and major soccer events will also be part of the slate of programming.
SiriusXM boasts more than 21 million subscribers and also provides services to most automakers, according to the company. Program schedules are available at siriusxm.com.
